BECKHAM

Paris: Paris St Germain chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi wants former England captain David Beckham to extend his contract with the French club for another year.

"We are going to talk with him about it. But frankly, we really want to keep him with us next season," al-Khelaifi told French sports daily L'Equipe on Monday.

Beckham, 37, joined the wealthy French side as a free agent in January on a five-month deal and said he was considering a second season at the capital club.

man united was consign by chelsea for FA cup

London: Holders Chelsea kept one hand on the FA Cup by overcoming a lacklustre Manchester United 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday in their quarter-final replay.

Senegalese striker Demba Ba settled the tie with a memorable goal early in the second half to send Chelsea into the last four for the sixth time in eight seasons.

Winners of four of the last six tournaments, Chelsea will play Manchester City in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium on April 14.

Despite his unpopularity with the Chelsea fans, interim manager Rafael Benitez could yet end the season with two trophies, as Russians Rubin Kazan await in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

"It was a great win," said Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, who produced a breath-taking save from Javier Hernandez to preserve his side's lead.

"We love Wembley, we respect the FA Cup as a whole and we always want to win.

1ST TO SCORE AGAINS OTHER TEAM IN LA LEAG IS MESSI

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi became the first player in Spanish football history to score against every other team in La Liga consecutively, BBC Sport reports.

The four-time world player of the year registered for the 19th game in a row as Barca drew 2-2 at Celta Vigo.

Messi has scored 29 goals in the streak and his tally in all competitions this season now stands at 56. Barca are top of the table, 13 points clear of Real Madrid, who are second, with nine games left to play.

ZARAGOZA 1-1 REALMADRID

Real Madrid got held to a 1-1 draw last night in "La Romareda" and failed to cut distances to Barcelona in the Spanish League standings. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the lonely goal for the Merengues from a left-foot strike, but it proved to be insufficient to get past Zaragoza and picking the 3 points from the Aragon region.

LIVERPOOL

Birmingham: Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 at Aston Villa on Sunday in an entertaining game that kept Paul Lambert's side entrenched in the Premier League relegation zone.

Christian Benteke put Villa ahead with a crisp strike in the first half but Jordan Henderson equalised early in the second period before Steven Gerrard claimed Liverpool's winner from the penalty spot.

Defeat left Villa third from bottom in the English top flight, but although they only trail fourth-bottom Wigan Athletic on goal difference, Roberto Martinez's side have a game in hand.

Villa had been bidding for a third successive win, but instead their momentum deserted them ahead of a run of games that includes daunting trips to Stoke City and leaders Manchester United.

Liverpool, meanwhile, closed to within five points of the European places, although the three teams immediately above them - Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton - all have a game in hand.
