London: Former England player David Beckham has been appointed as a sports ambassador by Sky TV and will coach youngsters across Britain and Ireland in football and fitness to find a new golden generation of world-class footballers.
Beckham, who is currently playing for French side Paris Saint Germain, said that he was lucky to have many inspiring role models during his youth, adding that he is excited to work with Sky to pass on some of that knowledge to the next generation, the Daily Star reports.
Welcoming Beckham, Sky's CEO Jeremy Darroch said that sports are at the heart of what they do, adding that both the channel and Beckham believe that sports have the power to excite, inspire and change lives.
Despite his move to Sky, Beckham said that he has no plans to become a football expert like his former Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville, joking that although he is fond of Neville, the former footballer talks too much.
Beckham will team up with Olympians Jessica Ennis, Sir Bradley Wiggins and cycling coach Sir David Brailsford after signing the deal and will visit schools to get pupils involved in sport, the report added.
